On 26 May 2020, Indonesia Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto issues new health protocols for Indonesia offices that plan to re-open after the Hari Raya Puasa festive holidays on 27 May 2020. The protocols are as follows:-
1. Ensure cleanliness and hygiene at the workplaces.
2. Increase the number of hand-washing facilities.
3. No staggered working hours for employees above 50 years old. This means late-night shifts should be done away with or at least assign late-night shifts to younger employees.
4. Exercise safe distancing, wear masks, check temperatures daily.
5. Set aside time for employees to exercise together, adhering to physical distancing guidelines before office work starts.
The above measures aim at minimizing the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission and are even better than Singapore's measures.
Hand-washing facilities are indeed problems for many Indonesia offices in Jakarta and developing cities. The shared toilets in cramped workplaces are smaller than Singaporean offices. Sometimes, they are find to hard. More public toilets need to be built in Indonesia.
Protocol Number 3 and 5 are particularly welcome as these mean that Indonesia offices must adhere to stricter but shorter working hours and take into account of workers' health and labour welfare. It is an excellent step for a developed country's national progress.
There are 415 new covid cases in Indonesia on 26 May, 89 of which come from Jakarta. The total number of confirmed cases in Indonesia on 26 May is 23165. A total of 5877 patients have recovered and discharged.
