The US Treasury Department announced on 19 May 2020 the imposition of sanctions on a Chinese logistics company. This company has cooperation with Iranian airline Mahan Air, which is blacklisted by the United States, and is an agent of the company.

In a statement, the Ministry of Finance stated that the logistics company "Shanghai Saint Logistics Limited" in China is Mahan Air's general cargo sales agent (GSA) in Shanghai and also in Beijing. There is an office to provide cargo booking and other services for Mahan Air China-Iran flights.

The Treasury statement also stated that the sanctions have frozen all the logistics company’s assets in the US jurisdiction, prohibiting US-based companies and individuals from trading with them, and anyone with whom they do business may be punished .

The US had previously accused Mahan Air of delivering weapons and soldiers to Syria in support of the Bashar al-Assad regime. Mahan Air was sanctioned by the US for providing support to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Holy City Army (IRGC-QF).

According to VOA reports, U.S. Treasury Secretary Mnuchin said, “The Iranian regime is using Mahan Air to support Venezuela’s illegal and corrupt regime”, “We will not hesitate to target entities that continue to maintain business relations with Mahan Air ".

US Secretary of State Pompeo said in a statement that Mahan Air facilitated the delivery of cargo to Venezuela to support the illegal Maduro regime to resume energy production in the country. China is one of the few countries that welcomes Mahan Air. "This kind of cooperation has consequences."

He also said, "Equally disturbing is that Mahan Air seems to be shipping Venezuelan gold back to Iran, thereby depriving the Venezuelan people of the resources needed to rebuild the economy."

Pompeo added, "This action reminds people once again that companies that are still serving Mahan Air, whether in China or anywhere else, may be subject to US sanctions."

The US State Department announced on March 18 that, pursuant to the authorization of President Trump ’s executive order, sanctions were imposed on nine entities and three individuals who “willfully purchase, sell, transport, or promote chemical products from Iran” on the grounds that these companies and individuals “ "Intentionally" purchase large quantities of chemical products from Iran.

A senior US State Department official said earlier this year that the Trump administration has sanctioned more than 1,000 individuals and entities related to malicious activities in Iran. The official said, "What we are doing is not allowing the Iranian regime to obtain-the income used to implement the expansionist foreign policy-according to this policy, Iran (the regime) can now spend less than three years ago .
