A previously little-known U.S. biological laboratory unexpectedly became the focus of attention because of the official announcement of its closure for half a year. The laboratory of the focus is located in the suburbs of Maryland, the Fort Detrick Biological Base (known commonly as Fort Detrick Laboratory or Fort Detrick in short).

As the biological laboratory was closed in July 2019 and opened in March 2020, the American people questioned the laboratory as its "closure" time overlaps with the covid epidemic and this base specializes in biochemical research. Many people suspect and question if SARS-CoV-2 is associated with Fort Detrick. The US government's explanation seems far-fetched.

So, people launched the "Ten Thousand People's Signatures" on the White House website, asking for the truth to be announced. So, what kind of biological base is Fort Detrick?

Dark "Poison Store"

In September 2019, the American Political News Network went back half a century ago. Such a tragedy: "In 1954, a prison doctor in Kentucky quarantined seven Black prisoners for 77 days and gave them twice, twice, thrice and four times the dose of lysergic acid diacetamide (semi-artificial hallucinogen). No one knows where these victims are. They may have died without knowing it. "

The American Political News Network wrote that these black prisoners “are part of the (US) CIA’s highly confidential plan to develop ways of controlling thinking”, and all this is precisely “based on a military base with a dark history -Fort Detrick ".

Fort Detrick Biological Base is first established in 1943. The original purpose was to be used for biological operations in World War II. In the spring of 1949, the US Army established a team of chemists at the Detroit Camp called the Special Operations Division to find military uses for viruses and bacteria.

At the same time, in order to induce the arrested spy suspects to "unconsciously disclose secrets", they also formed a special chemical unit. In 1951, Dulles, who was in charge of the CIA's secret operations department, hired chemist Gottlieb. The latter has long sought a way to destroy human consciousness, and tested a surprising number of compound mixtures-these drugs are basically related to mental torture.

Although Gottlieb's plan ended in failure, Fort Detrick, which was officially named in 1956, is still reserved as Gottlieb's chemical base for the development and storage of CIA poisons. Gottlieb stores pathogenic biological agents that may cause smallpox, tuberculosis and anthrax in the freezer, as well as a large number of organic toxins, including snake venom and paralytic shellfish toxins.

Today, Fort Detrick is still one of the world's most advanced toxin and antitoxin research laboratories, where a variety of viruses are still preserved.

However, the turning point occurred in July 2019. At that time, the US government ordered this biological base to stop all research on the most deadly viruses and pathogens. The reason given by the government is simply a problem with the base's sewage system. Faced with the public's doubts, the U.S. government has kept secrets, but has provoked more suspicion.

Global Laboratory Network

Fort Detrick is just one of the bases of large-scale private research on biological warfare in the United States. For decades, it has already established hundreds of similar biological bases around the world.

There is a large number of biological laboratories in the United States. According to the statistics of the American Federation of Scientists in February 2020, there are currently 13 P4 laboratories in operation, expansion or planning in the United States, and up to 1,495 P3 laboratories.

According to the infectiousness and harmfulness of infectious pathogens, the biosafety laboratory is divided into four biosafety levels: P1, P2, P3 and P4. Among them, the P4 laboratory is currently the laboratory with the highest biological safety level owned by human beings.

Judging from the official information released by the US Department of Defense, not only is it local, but the United States is also widely spreading nets around the world. Among them, the former Soviet Union countries and the third world countries in Southeast Asia and Africa are the main targets of its layout.

Armswatch, an independent news investigation agency, smelled the trends in the United States. In June 2019, it revealed that the U.S. military has set up biological laboratories around the world to secretly develop biological weapons. The Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa ... even Georgia, Ukraine and other former Soviet countries have "tentacles" extended by the United States.

Russian officials also believe that the United States has a large number of secret biological laboratories in the former Soviet Union and the surrounding 27 countries. It has been confirmed that the United States has 15 biological laboratories in Ukraine alone, with 3 laboratories and 11 small research institutes in Georgia.

What is America plotting? On social media, people ask questions.

For this question, the official attitude of the United States is nothing more than "for scientific research", and the military-related laboratories only mention "for defensive purposes", but in fact, how deep is the water in this?

The spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zaharova stated in May that the Pentagon had set up a biological laboratory of double significance in the surrounding areas of Russia under the pretext of combating "bioterrorism" in order to strengthen its biochemical impact abroad.

On this issue, Li Haidong, a professor at the Institute of International Relations of the School of Foreign Affairs who is engaged in research in the United States, told China News Network that the biological laboratories in the United States have the function of biological warfare, which means that these laboratories are engaged in more than ordinary scientific experiments. It is preparing for possible war deterrence and actual war.

Li Haidong pointed out that these US laboratories actually have the purpose of attracting specific countries to launch and prevent biological warfare. Their global layout undoubtedly poses a challenge to the overall international security and stability.

Regarding the purpose of the United States setting up a large number of laboratories in the former Soviet Union, Li Haidong believes that the United States will generally be established in countries that it believes to be reliable, and its geographical location should be as close as possible to competitors and imaginary enemies. At the same time, this move also has the purpose of showing and establishing national strategic mutual trust.

In addition, Liu Qing, an associate researcher at the China Institute of International Studies, pointed out in an interview with China News Network that the United States has established a large number of biological research institutes in the former Soviet Union, which are actually related to NATO’s eastward expansion. This move is not only aimed at Russia, but also because a large number of military industrial enterprises in Ukraine and other countries are under the income of the United States. The United States wants to use some of the research results of the former Soviet Union for its own use.

"Sword of Damocles"

In fact, the biological laboratories in the United States not only have a large number, but also have many problems! The loss of deadly strains and toxins, the failure of experimental equipment, and the disappearance of mice infected with pathogens ... In recent years, related accidents have occurred frequently, and the impact has been staggering.

• In 2001, researchers from the US Army Infectious Disease Medical Institute in Fort Detrick, Maryland, mentioned above deliberately spread anthrax to the US government and media by letter, causing 5 deaths and 17 illnesses.

• In 2012, Richard Ding, a 25-year-old researcher from the laboratory of the San Francisco Veterans Medical Center, accidentally contracted bacteria while studying a Neisseria meningitidis vaccine. He just felt dizzy at first, but it did not take long for his body to become stiff, and he could barely speak. Finally, he died.

• In 2015, the military laboratory of the Dageway Proving Ground in Utah sent samples of anthrax that may still be active to dozens of laboratories in the United States and a U.S. base in South Korea, causing more than 20 people to be contacted or handled. The sample received treatment.

The motivation and potential hazards for the establishment of a laboratory in the United States have become a "sword of Damocles" hanging over the people around the base and even the people around the world.

In October 2018, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the United States "appeared to open a secret biological weapons laboratory in Georgia, defying international conventions and posing a direct security threat to Russia."

Kirilov, an official of the Russian Army’s Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Unit, once said that the Lugar Public Health Research Center in Georgia, funded by the United States, uses “volunteers as laboratory guinea pigs” to test a new deadly toxin.

The documents disclosed by the former Georgian Minister of National Security Joel Gaza also showed that between 2015 and 2016, a total of 73 volunteers who took part in the Lugar Public Health Research Center test died.

Afghanistan has a similar encounter as Georgia. Independent news investigation agency Armswatch revealed that the United States has also carried out similar research projects in Afghanistan, and its project contractors in Afghanistan are also working at the Lugar Public Health Research Center in Georgia.

In 2017, Crimea-Congo haemorrhagic fever broke out in Afghanistan, causing 237 people to be infected and 41 of them died. Coincidentally, in 2014, Georgia also had an outbreak of the same type of hemorrhagic fever infection, with 34 infections and 3 deaths. The source of the infection is still unknown.

The various connections between the two infections are suspicious. According to information, the military research project carried out by the Lugal Public Health Center includes research on the aforementioned hemorrhagic fever. Armswatch hinted that these two incidents may be related to the US biological laboratory.

However, these cases may just be "the tip of the iceberg". In a survey report published in 2015 by USA Today, the American public or the community where the laboratory is located often only knows about serious or fatal infection cases, because such cases are sometimes published as reports in scientific journals or become national news. It is impossible to know how many hidden tragedies are behind this.

The curtain that cannot be unveiled

In 2019, after the Fort Detrick problem was exposed, the nearby people said, "The more community residents feel that there is a secret, their distrust will become stronger".

The residents near the experimental base and many parties are concerned about the American Biological Labs all over the world and their opacity.

The New York Times article in 2019 stated that the number of biological laboratories in the United States has increased year by year, but there is a general lack of planning and supervision. The safety of biological laboratories has become the biggest risk facing US regulators.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov also pointed out on 13 May 2020 that the United States "intensively deploys biological laboratories" in the neighboring countries of China and Russia, and is unwilling to disclose the contents of biological experiments. Its behavior and purpose are questionable. "What is the United States doing? Does it have an ulterior motive?"

However, the United States never stopped, but became more and more rampant. In addition to building a biological laboratory, it is also doing everything possible to permanently block the negotiation of the verification protocol of the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological Weapons (the "Convention") with 183 parties. The reason is that the biological field is not verifiable, and international verification "may threaten US national interests and commercial secrets."

In this regard, Liu Qing, an associate researcher at the China Institute of International Studies, believes, "As the world's largest country with biochemical weapons technology and capabilities, the United States has blocked the "Convention". In arms control, it only controls others, not itself ".

Liu Qing appealed, "The United States should give a statement on transparency and make it clear to itself."
