Earlier, many political observers pointed out that Shi Zhengli, the director of the Research Center for New Infectious Diseases of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and the director of the Key Laboratory of Pathogenic Biology and Biosafety of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and others from the Wuhan Insitute of Viology have long been devoted to the study of bat coronaviruses. The Wuhan Center for Disease Prevention & Control is also studying bat coronaviruses. Their researchers have all collected bat viruses samples in the south and done researches on the samples. It has also been admitted that the outbreak of the virus SARS-CoV-2 is very similar to the coronavirus from the chrysanthemum horseshoe bat they once discovered in Yunnan, and this time the pandemic first erupted in Wuhan. It is naive to simply explain all this as "coincidence".

The Chinese first suspected virus leakage from a Wuhan laboratory. Since January 2020, the Chinese Internet has been boiling with netizens doubting the P4 laboratory of Wuhan Institute of Viology and the Wuhan Center for Disease Prevention and Control near the seafood market. The laboratory's security level of the Wuhan Center for Disease Prevention and Control is low. Expert Tian Junhua's video of capturing bats in the cave was once circulated online.

Shortly after the outbreak, some mainland scholars also revealed that the staff of the Wuhan Center for Disease Prevention and Control had collected bat virus samples and were automatically quarantined for two weeks after being bitten.

The French newspaper Le Monde quoted the Chinese media as saying that in the past 12 years, Chinese researchers have found nearly 2,000 viruses, while other countries in the world have only found 284 viruses in the past 200 years. China is a global leader in virus basic research. The expert Tian Junhua later admitted that his exposed skin was infected by a bat's excretion and caused infection, and he himself was isolated after coming into contact with the urine of the bat.

Was Tian Junhua or somebody else in the Wuhan laboratories patient zero? Did experts investigate Junhua's accident in the Wuhan CDC laboratory?

Chinese investigations into patient zero are ongoing.

However, the chief editor of The Lancet, Richard Horton, said that it was useless to launch investigations into patient zero of covid in China as previous attempts to identify patient zero of other infectious diseases such as AIDS have failed.  Identifying the intermediate host of SARS-CoV-2 appears to be the most critical factor in breaking and halting the pandemic.

A few days ago, Twitter "Horn" account was quoted, revealing that Shi Zhengli, an expert at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences,  was said to have fled to France with her family with "nearly 1,000 secret files" and had "applied for asylum in the  US Embassy in France". On 2 May 2020, she posted on WeChat to her circle of friends denying rumours that she had defected abroad. The official website of the Chinese Communist Party Global Network claimed on the same day that Shi Zhengli's WeChat message was sent by herself.

Shi Zhengli messaged, "Dear friends, my family and I are all well! No matter how difficult it is, there will not be what is said in the" Betrayal "rumor. We have done nothing wrong, and we have a firm belief in science in our hearts. There will definitely be a day when the clouds open and sunrise. "

However, overseas radio station Sound of Hope said the outside world still doubts whether the aforementioned post was Shi Zhengli herself and Shi Zhengli's real situation.

Current affairs commentator Zheng Zhongyuan told Sound of Hope  that Shi Zhengli's information is obviously in line with the needs of the China Communist Party (CCP).

Zhongyuan said CCP now strictly guards against the source of the virus and the concealment of the epidemic. For example, it has imposed strict restrictions on domestic virus traceability research. In terms of personnel, there are two kinds of people who are strictly controlled. One holds secrets once the defection endangers the security of the regime, and the other knows the truth and have been exposed to the outside world, such as the whistle blower Dr. Ai Fen. The last time Dr. Ai Fen lost contact received international attention, and then appeared in a video, but everyone felt suspicious. He said that since Shi Zhengli was only posting a message online, the actual situation of the 'defector' remains to be seen.

Shi Zhengli, born in 1964, discovered viruses associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in bats in 2017 and associated SARS-CoV-2 with bats in China. Based on this deduction, the CCP held bats as the chief hosts responsible for the spread of the coronavirus. However, the China Foreign Ministry spokespeople Zhao Lijian and Hua Chunying have shirked CCP's responsibility over the initial coronavirus outbreak and pandemic to the United States and Italy. Online forces in mainland China have done the same to external netizens.

Meanwhile, investigations into the source of SARS-CoV-2 by the United States intelligence community are ongoing. There are also calls for international independent investigations by Australia and Europe into the source of the initial epidemic.
