It seems no controversy that SARS-CoV-2 outbreak began to erupt in Wuhan. What is controversial is how the virus broke out. On 6 May US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said “there is a lot of evidence” that the virus originated in a laboratory in Wuhan. How to face this virus has become the key to the development of US-China relations.

Pompeo said,: "One way to solve the problem quickly is: the Communist Party of China can fulfill its commitments under the World Health Organization's obligations, be transparent and open, and do what all the countries in the world should do, that is to ensure that this pandemic does not get out of control. "

Pompeo said on Wednesday that China should let its scientists speak.

Pompeo said, "To date," China (the Chinese Communist Party) is still refusing to share the information we need to ensure people's safety, such as virus isolates, clinical specimens, and details about many covid patients in December 2019 and other information, not to mention patient zero. "

At present, many countries in the world are condemning the CCP and even prosecuting the CCP, and plan to decouple from China in the supply chain. President Trump even hesitated to restart the tariff trade war to deal with the CCP.

Pompeo said on 7 May 2020 that he is open to more trade negotiations between the United States and China, but he also pointed out that the CCP regime faces two options, depending on which one they choose.

China Communist regime has two options

On Thursday (7 May 2020), Pompeo said in an interview with CNBC's "Squawk Box", "If they (referring to China) want to participate in this world, if they want to protect intellectual property rights, if they want fair and right trade, if they are interested in it, this is what they told us, I think this is the way. "

He said: "If they (the Chinese Communist Party) choose a different path, if they choose to continue to follow the path of business practices over the past 25 years, President Trump will say, 'No, this is not what the American people or American workers want', Then we (U.S.-China relations) will go a different way. "

White House new spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany also said at the White House press briefing on 6 May that US-China relations are currently "disappointing and frustrating." She also expressed the reason for the president's dissatisfaction. She gave a few examples: for example, the CCP did not share gene sequencing until a professor in Shanghai provided it alone. The day after the genome sequencing was shared, the laboratory was closed because of the so-called ‘rectification’. The World Health Organization has also been slow to move information from person to person, and the CCP did not provide this information in time. At the same time, the Chinese Communist Party has not allowed American investigators to enter to understand, etc., for too many reasons.

President Trump said that he was frustrated by certain decisions of China (the Chinese Communist Party) because it put American lives at risk; and he put the health and well-being of the American people first.

President Trump said in an interview with Fox News on 3 May  (Sunday) that Xi Jinping agreed to the first phase of the US-China trade agreement because the US imposed punitive tariffs on Chinese goods, "This is our most powerful negotiation Tools, never done this before ".

According to the first phase of the trade agreement signed by the United States and China on 15 January 2020, China promises to purchase at least US $ 200 billion of US goods and services within two years of entry into force (based on the 2017 trade volume), including USD 32 billion in agricultural products.

The US has also reduced the original 15% tariff on US $ 120 billion in Chinese goods to half of 7.5%, but it still retains a 25% tariff on Chinese products worth US $ 250 billion.

Trump said that because of the CCP virus pandemic, he will look at future development (whether the CCP implements trade agreements). He said: "They (the CCP) take advantage of our country, and now they must buy (US goods and services), if not, we will terminate the transaction, it's that simple."

Trump also said that he will be informed within a week or two if China is fulfilling its obligations under the trade agreement.

How the CCP handles viruses is the key to future U.S.-China relations

At the White House on April 30, Trump also told reporters: "Now, the trade agreement reached with Xi Jinping is secondary to how China (the Chinese Communist Party) responds to this virus."

Therefore, it can be seen that in the face of the pressure of international trade, the CCP can completely solve the problem as long as it handles the problem of Wuhan virus. Now let's see if Xi Jinping wants to let go of the country and let the international community know the truth. Whoever bears the responsibility, let him bear the responsibility. Don't go all the way to black. Otherwise, once the truth comes out, all opportunities are gone.

At a press conference a few days ago, when Trump was asked if he had definite evidence that the virus came from a laboratory in Wuhan, Trump was still giving China a chance. He said yes, but he also said that China may tell the truth.

On Thursday, May 7, Joe Kernen of CNBC also asked Pompeo if there was direct evidence that the virus came from the Wuhan laboratory, or if it was indirect evidence, Pompeo replied: "A person’s direct instruction is another person ’s indirect decision.” He said that the United States "surely" knew that Chinese (CCP) officials tried to cover up when the virus was first discovered.

Corning also asked Pompeo whether he is still optimistic about the possibility of more trade negotiations.

Pompeo said, "Just as the Trump administration has been doing for three years, we are prepared to work on these issues in good faith."

But he also said, "My biggest concern is that China (whether the Chinese Communist Party) is doing things suitable for American workers and American employers. We have seen unfair trade relations for a long time."

Trump also said that he has a solution. Therefore, in the future of China, Xi Jinping has to make the right choice as soon as possible.

Pompeo said, "President Trump has set a sign for his government that we can grow our economy."
