It is known that COVID-19 (covid, in short) can spread through close contact. Many companies have thus been finding ways to continue their business activities while contributing their efforts in containing the spread of the disease. This is true for metropolitan cities like Singapore and Beijing. One example of a government body that is ingenious in continuing business online is the Beijing Intellectual Property Court.
On 21 February 2020, the official WeChat account of the Beijing Intellectual Property Court released the "Cloud Court" system user manual to trademark agent offices of the world.
To begin a trial online known as "Cloud Court", the user needs a computer, a mobile phone and a network connection.
The "contactless" intellectual property court can be accessed to on a computer, a WeChat mini-programme and an Android mobile device. After the judge successfully creates the trial "courtroom", he will send a text message notification to the participants, prompting the participants to download the designated client.
In the process of proof and cross-examination, the parties can upload and make comments on the evidence.
During the trial, the parties can view the trial transcript and sign it.
At online court hearings, the legitimate rights and interests of the parties are effectively protected while avoiding large assemblies at courts.
To access "Cloud Court", interested users may visit the Beijing Court Trial Information Network (http://www.bjcourt.gov.cn), download the client in the Beijing Court Online Litigation Platform-Online Trial Module, and follow the instructions on the page to install.
With the implementation of the "contactless" trial, lawsuits and other law cases can be handled swiftly to reduce cease possibility of covid infection and avoid any suspension of business and delay in returning to office work.
