Most patients with severe COVID-19 are the elderly but it is rare for a young man to suffer from covid.
In Yamanashi, Japan, a 20-year-old young man fell ill at home. He has been diagnosed with covid and and has symptoms of meningitis. Experts say the possibility of meningitis caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 (covi, in short) is extremely high.
According to NHK, the man lived in Showa-cho, Minami Alps, Yamanashi Prefecture. He had fever of 38.5 degrees on 27 February, and went to the hospital twice in the next day and on 2 March, he did not undergo virus screening.
Later, because the young man could not be contacted, his colleagues felt that something was wrong. So on 6 March, a colleague went to visit the young man's home with his family and police, only to find that he was ill. The man was taken to the affiliated hospital of the Yamanashi University Medical Department, where he was treated in an intensive care unit.
According to Shinji Shimada, President of Yamanashi University Kofu Campus, who is from the University of Tokyo's medical department, in addition to fever and suffering from covid, the young man also has symptoms of meningitis and is unconscious. As a result, the hospital tested its cerebrospinal fluid, and the results were positive for covid. Shimada said that the possibility of meningitis caused by covi is extremely high. They also said that meningitis caused by covi is very rare and a very important case.
It is reported that the young man has no history of traveling abroad. Kotaro Nagasaki, Yamanashi Prefecture said that because the man has difficulty speaking, he could not understand his moving footprint. If a resident in Showa-cho, Minami Alps City had physical discomfort, consult a doctor as soon as possible.
