At a cabinet meeting devoted to containing the spread of COVID-19, Nepal has announced that it will suspend the visa-on-arrival application policy for foreign tourists on 7 March 2020.

This means that international tourists wishing to visit Nepal must obtain a paper visa from Nepali embassies or consulates before departure.

Nepal's only international airport, Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, has also begun to conduct temperature checks and disinfection for all passengers entering and leaving the country.

At the cabinet meeting, Nepal’s Prime Minister Olli asked officials to re-select a tourism year, as the goals of Visit Nepal 2020 are difficult to achieve.

The Nepali side also announced that the Everest Climate Conference, originally scheduled for the first week of April 2020, will be postponed, and other large international conferences and events will also be suspended, and the public is advised not to organize and participate in large-scale assemblies.

Previously, there was one confirmed case of covid in Nepal but the patient has recovered. There are now more than a hundred bodily fluids or blood samples waiting for test results.
