The People's Republic of China (PRC) People's Liberation Army (PLA) 'Y-8' military aircraft flew into the Taiwan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on 8 May 2020.

According to The Freedom Times' report, Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the mainland's 'Y-8' aircraft was detected yesterday for flight training in the sea area southwest of Taiwan. During this period, it briefly entered the Taiwan's air defense identification zone. After implementing broadcast evacuation, the mainland aircraft then left the air defense identification zone.

DPP legislator Wang Dingyu analyzed that the mainland intends to increase military oppression before Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen takes office on 20 May 2020.

DPP legislator Luo Zhizheng also believes that on the eve of "520", mainland China's increased military actions are targeted, and the recent US actions are relatively large. PRC responds to the United States militarily and pressures Taiwan politically.
