One of two newly confirmed covid cases in Hong Kong on 13 May 2020 affects 30000 airport staff

Two more new covid cases are confirmed in Hong Kong on 13 May 2020 as at 4.35 pm, including a five-year-old  girl who went tuition two days before the onset of the illness. She is the granddaughter of the 66-year-old patient residing in Lei Muk Shue diagnosed with covid on 12 May 2020.  The third covid patient is an imported case from Qatar. The Centre of Health Protection has required the Hong Kong airport staff to undergo deep throat saliva swab-testing.

In the next newly confirmed case, a 34-year-old male patient returned to Hong Kong from Pakistan. Xu Deyi, deputy director of the Food and Health Bureau, said that the government believes that there is no need to respond to the strict anti-epidemic measures at the end of March.

Details of newly confirmed cases:
Case 1049:
. A 66-year-old woman, living in Block 5 of Lei Muk Shue Village, has no travel history.

. Fever from May 8 and rest at home for the next two days
. On May 11, she went to the general outpatient clinic of Mrs. Wu Ruoyu, and her deep throat saliva sample was tested positive for new coronavirus on May 12.
. On weekdays, she went to Yangwu Road Market to buy rice cakes, and then go to her son’s apartment at Zhuo Ming Building, 10 Market Street, Tsuen Wan Street to take care of her 5 year old granddaughter.

. Eight family members of the patient are listed as close contacts, 7 of whom have been sent to the hospital with symptoms, and the remaining husband has been admitted to the quarantine centre.

. The CHP will distribute deep-throat saliva sample bottles to the residents living in the building and its residents in Tsuen Wan House in Tsuen Wan, hoping to withdraw the samples for testing to understand the situation of SARS-CoV-2 in the community

Case 1050:
. The 5-year-old girl is the granddaughter of case 1049. She lives in Zhuo Ming Building, 10 Market Street, Tsuen Wan. She coughed from May 11 and has no travel history.

. On 2 and 9 May, the girl went to the "Taiwan Square" Tutoring Club in Tsuen Wan for tuition. At that time, the class included a tutor and the classmate. Zhang Zhujun, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Centre for Health Protection, said that they were wearing masks at the time. The CHP will arrange tests for the tutor and classmate who are not in close contact.

. On 9 May, the girl went to her grandmother’s residence at Block 8 of Furong Garden in Dajiaozui and ate with more than 10 people. She stayed there from that day, so everyone in her grandmother’s family was also listed as a close contact person to be quarantined.

Case 1051:
. 34-year-old man visited relatives alone in Pakistan from 12 March  to 8 May 2020

. Fly to Doha, Qatar on 8 May, transfer to flight QR818, arrive in Hong Kong on 9 May

. A sample of deep-throat saliva was left at the airport on the day of arrival, the test result was negative, and he was admitted to the quarantine centre.

. He has fever in the quarantine centre on 12 May and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The diagnosis was confirmed on 13 May 13.

Zhang Zhujun said that about 30,000 people who work at the Hong Kong International Airport will be provided deep-throat saliva swab-testing free-of-charge, and 500 daily inspection places will be arranged at designated locations to provide them with sample bottles to collect deep-throat saliva. He Wanxia, ​​Chief Administrative Manager (patient safety and risk management) of CHP, pointed out that public hospitals will also expand the testing conditions. In addition to the symptoms of covid or fever, people with flu symptoms have also been  tested starting from 12 May 2020.
